Marks & Spencer started in 1884 at a stall in Leeds Kirkgate Market, and it has now 600 stores located throughout the UK, with a further 240 throughout the world. Although the food and drink arm of the business is tiny when compared with Tesco, Asda, Sainsbury’s and Morrisons, it is still regarded by many shoppers as the leading player where quality is concerned.
